Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer is a type of cancer that originates from the internal layer of the milk ducts which are known as ductal carcinomas. It occurs in humans (mainly in women) and mammals. It can occur in men too.

Two Types of Breast Cancer:

  • Ductal Carcinoma
  • Lobular Carcinoma

Factors Causing Breast Cancer:

  • Age and gender
  • Family history of breast cancer
  • Genes
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Alcohol use
  • Childbirth
  • DES
  • Hormone surrogate therapy (HRT)
  • Radiation

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

  • Breast lump
  • Breast having uneven edges
  • Change in the size, shape, or feel of the breast or nipple
  • Fluid coming from the nipple — may be bloody or look like pus
  • Bone pain
  • Breast pain or discomfort
  • Swelling of one arm (next to the breast with cancer)

Medication:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Hormone blocking therapy
  • Monoclonal antibodies

Prevent Breast cancer:

  • Prefer foods that provides a healthy weight
  • Prefer whole grains
  • Eat minimum 5 servings of fruits and vegetables regularly
  • Have red meat in the diet
